The Hag
Folklore tells us of a demon that would come to you at night who would sit on your chest and paralyze you so you couldn’t breathe and couldn’t move and couldn’t speak. In the Maritimes the hag would come from the sea, In other cultures, she would come from the forest or the mountains almost always a female figure, she is said to come to you in times of stress and grief . The crushing weight of stress stresses and grief play a predominant role in this folk tale. It said that if you want to protect yourself from the hag, you would put a sharp object under your pillow tie, red string or ribbon around your bed post or leave a bristle object near the doorway of your sleeping quarters.
